Good work matters to me.

I’ve spent almost 30 years doing work I love in a community I care about.

I’m Vanessa Salvia, a writer, editor, and indexer based in Eugene, Oregon since 1991. Over the course of my career I’ve written for dozens of publications and edited more than a dozen print magazines across industries as varied as music, construction, land surveying, and medical topics. My work has ranged widely but one common thread is food. I’ve written about food and beverages for local and regional publications, reported on food for news outlets, edited cookbooks, built cookbook indexes, and recipe tested for acclaimed cookbooks. I am a Master Food Preserver Trainee as of May 2026. I’m a Certified Master Recycler through Lane County, committed to sustainability and waste reduction. In February 2026 I founded the South Willamette chapter of Slow Food USA. Prior to that, I spent seven years as a board member of Eugene Area Gleaners, a food rescue organization that collects unused food from farms, restaurants, and grocery stores and distributes it to people in need. The care I bring to my community is the same care I bring to my work. Let’s talk.
